This week’s episode of Grey’s Anatomy will become a record breaking one when it airs on ABC.
Thursday’s episode titled ‘We Didn’t Star the Fire’ is the 15th episode of the current 15th season, making it the 332nd overall.
That means the upcoming episode will overtake the record previously held by ER for the longest-running primetime medical drama in the States. Ever.
The episode’s description reads: “When Jackson throws a party to celebrate Catherine’s surgery and those who worked to save her, literally nothing goes as planned. Meanwhile, Helen pays Alex and Jo a surprise visit.”
Grey’s Anatomy won’t be slowing down any time soon either, with a 16th season already confirmed.
ABC network president Karey Burke recently confirmed that conversations are happening surrounding what happens after season 16.
“The show was picked up for two seasons last season, so we have another season to go and I’m sure we’ll be planning for more,” she said.
“We’re thrilled with Grey’s performance. I was visiting the set earlier this week. I believe the status is that we’re in conversations about continuing the show.”
EW recently confirmed that Grey’s Anatomy is currently on the hunt for an actress to play Kathleen, who is the fourth sister of the late Derek Shepherd. Like the rest of her family, Kathleen is also a doctor (she’s a psychiatrist, to be specific), but has yet to be featured in the popular show.
Ellen Pompeo has also been discussing her contract and the future of the show.
During an interview it was revealed that Ellen Pompeo’s contract for Grey’s only covered to the end of season 16. She told the publication: “I’m clearly not prepared right now to make any formal announcement about my future on the show. That’s something that Shonda Rhimes and I will do together. But I’m feeling like we have told the majority of the stories that we can tell.”
“But yes, I’m feeling like we’re coming to the end of the stories that we’ve told and that we can tell. I’m really excited to do some new things, it’s about time that I mix it up and I’m really excited about my producing career, and I’m definitely looking for a change. My children are getting older so I want to be more available to them now. I can’t be an absentee mom if they’re teenagers, I have to be around to whip their butts. So it’s definitely time for change in my life.”
